Una.pngBula Vinaka!

I am Una and I hail from the island of Fiji.  I have four daughters, two sons-in-law and three precious grand-children.  I have a Bachelor in Education (Primary School) and a Diploma in Health Psychology.  I have taught at Pomare Primary School, Taita College and I have been a coordinator for PFAT (Parents as First Teachers).  I started working for Childhood Concepts in 2011 at the Pretoria Street Centre and moved to the Upper Hutt Centre in 2014.

I absolutely love teaching!  It is my life’s calling to be a teacher.  I believe it is my honour and my privilege to guide, support and lead our children, to be the best they can be, as they start their life long journey as learners.

As for me, I love singing (I am in our Fijian Wesley Church Choir) I enjoy art and decorating.  I also love travelling back to Fiji to see my families.  Most importantly I am the happiest and probably the silliest, when I am with my grandchildren and my four girls, because they make my world perfect!

Vinaka vakalevu (Thank you), Una

Upper_Hutt_staff_-_Angie.jpgKi ora, I’m Angie and I am the Head Teacher in the Fantail Room.

I have been teaching since 1999 and have worked in a variety of early childhood centres in Lower Hutt, as well as one in Howick, Auckland.

I attended Victoria University in Wellington, where I studied towards a degree in early childhood (Bachelor of Education) and graduated in 2010.  I have completed my teacher’s registration and currently hold a fully registered teacher’s practising certificate.

I live locally in Upper Hutt with my two daughters, Ella who is at primary school and Matilda-Rose who attends at the centre; they bring much love, laughter, tears and plenty of challenges.  I also have two fur babies, an English Staffy named Jett and a cat called Portia.

Kia Ora.

My name is Cheryl.

I have been in the education sector for 18 years, teaching in primary schools and early childhood centres respectively. I currently live In Upper Hutt with my husband.  We have been married for 25 years and have two beautiful children.  We also have Oscar our dog and seven goats.

I was born in Cape Town and we moved to New Zealand 14 years ago. We love rugby and the great outdoors, which makes our new home country the perfect place to settle down.

I strongly believe in the Māori tikanga principal of Ako, where reciprocal learning and teaching takes place between learner and educator.  Education is a two-way street and I love learning alongside children, as we grow in essential competencies for the future.

Upper Hutt Staff - KateHi, I’m Kate and I have worked at Childhood Concepts Upper Hutt since 2011.

I completed my Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) at the end of 2014 and am currently working towards completing my registration. I live locally, with my partner Mitchell, our two boys Ryder and Nixon, plus our dog Storm.

I really love the special moments I get to share with all of the children, families and whanau that are part of our centre.  Also, I love that my job allows me to spend time with all of the beautiful tamaraki who attend and to be a part of their lives as they grow.  It is so rewarding to watch them develop, explore their world and discover their own unique skills, interests and personalities.

Hi, my name is Bridget Martin.

I’m a trained and registered Early Childhood Teacher and have been working in early childhood since 2007.

I enjoy watching children grow and develop into young confident learners.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family.

Farrens_photo.jpgKia ora, my name is Farren.

I am a friendly and bubbly person, so if you see me around, don’t be shy and say hello.

I have been working at Childhood Concepts since 2016 and completed my Bachelor of Education
(Teaching) Early Childhood (BEd) in the same year.

My passion lies with the tamariki and they inspire me. Half of the time they are teaching me! I am
passionate about learning and being able to teach the young tamariki of New Zealand. I believe that
much of their development and growth etc, happens in their beginning years of life. I love being a part of their learning journey and celebrating their successes alongside their whanau.

Staff Upper Hutt Jing Hello, everyone. My name is Jing. I am a teacher in the Kiwi Room (Over Three’s).
I have been working at Childhood Concepts since 2010. Then in 2012 I came to join our Upper Hutt Centre’s team as a qualified teacher after I graduated with a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) from the University of Waikato.
I love teaching because I enjoy watching children learn, grow and develop.  I am proud to be a part of each child’s learning journey as they explore and make sense of their world and become competent and confident learners and communicators.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening, travelling, photography, sport and spending time with my wife and friends.  Please feel free to have a chat with me when you see me around.

Kia Ora, my name is Brydon Burns.

I have lived in Upper Hutt for most of my life and I have been engaged to my girlfriend, whom I met in college, since 2010.

My interests include, riding my motorcycle, video games, electronic engineering, my pets (Axolotls, Blue Tongue Lizard and Cats) and I like giving everything a go.

This is my first full time teaching position at Childhood Concepts.  Prior to working at Childhood Concepts, I was relieving at various centres for four years, as well as studying for my Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Early Childhood Degree.

I like to get involved with children and their play.  I encourage them to lead me through their play, so that I can help them develop their leadership skills.

I am very flexible with my teaching strategies and love to hear people’s opinions and ideas.

I have also lived and studied for some time in Melbourne, Australia.

All children are important to the future of our world.  I offer a caring spirit, creativity and dedication.  I love children and I have a lot of patience.  I really enjoy working with children and I think this career is perfect for me.

My name is Chris and I am a reliever at Upper Hutt Childhood Concepts.  I started working here in May 2016.

I have been teaching for about 15 years, in a number of centres within the Hutt Valley.  I have worked with babies and pre-schoolers and love each age group for different reasons.  I have a passion for making learning fun and meaningful for each child, therefore creating a lifelong interest in discovery and learning.  I believe every child has the right to a great education and is enabled to be, the best they can.

I am currently studying towards my Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood).

I am married to Rob and we have two adult sons, Paul and Jacob.  We love to go camping in the summer and have had many holidays around New Zealand enjoying bush walks, paddling, or swimming at the beach, fishing and just relaxing in the outdoors.

Paul and Jacob have played hockey since they were in primary school, representing club, school and Wellington region. I love to watch them play and have had the privilege of many trips around New Zealand and Australia to do this.
