Basin Reserve Centre team members
JillianHello, I’m Jillian, the centre manager of our Kent Terrace service. I began my teaching career 30 years ago as a kindergarten teacher and in the years that followed I have also taught in full day education and care services and a new entrant classroom. I have 12 years management experience in the early childhood sector and am part of the Childhood Concepts management team.
My priority is creating welcoming, nurturing and engaging environments where children can form warm, secure relationships with their teachers. I value the building of strong links between centre and home life and encourage the input of families into their children’s ongoing learning. I respect the commitment of our teachers to their profession and strive to ensure that they are well supported in their work.
I am always happy to show interested parents around the centre so please contact me if you’d like to arrange a visit.
JingHello, everyone. My name is Jing. I am a teacher in the Kiwi Room (Over Three’s).
I love teaching because I enjoy watching children learn, grow and develop. I am proud to be a part of each child’s learning journey as they explore and make sense of their world and become competent and confident learners and communicators.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening, travelling, photography, sport and spending time with my wife and friends. Please feel free to have a chat with me when you see me around.
Kia Ora! My name is Fairlee Rigby and I have been working here at Kent Terrace since February 2018. I achieved my Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) from Victoria University in 2017 and have recently graduated. Before my diploma I studied a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and minoring in Education, completing it in 2016 at Victoria University as well. I am from Hawkes Bay but moved down to Wellington to study and absolutely love living in this awesome city!
I am looking forward to learning and growing my teaching practice alongside the wonderful tamariki and other kaiako we have here at this centre. Teaching has always been an interest of mine and during my studies I found a passion within early childhood. As a teacher, I strive to build strong and trusting relationships with each child and to recognise and encourage their unique abilities.
I am excited to be part of your children’s learning and development as we encourage and inspire the children to explore and share in positive learning experiences.
My name is Rosie Allan and I have been working here since November. I achieved my Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) from Victoria University last year after I found that I love working with children! I have worked with children for several years, as I was the supervisor of an after-school care and a reliever at an early childhood centre during my time at university.
Before my diploma, I studied a Bachelor of Science majoring in Geography and Development Studies. I am from Gisborne and moved to Wellington in 2014 and love everything about living here!
I really enjoy working alongside the team here at Childhood Concepts. Our children are great, and we are constantly learning and growing every day! I love being there to share in each child’s individual experiences. I am so excited to see what the future has in store for our children.
My name is Kate O’Sullivan and I had been teaching at the centre for 15 months before Childhood Concepts took over the ownership in May 2018. I am really enjoying working in a creative, inspiring and awesome learning environment. I grew up in Taranaki but have lived in Wellington since the beginning of 2008.
I have 10 years’ experience working with under-fives. I graduated with a Bachelor of Teaching ECE from Te Rito Maioha/ Early childhood New Zealand at the beginning of 2016. Prior to obtaining my degree I worked as a nanny in the Wellington area and at three other centres as an unqualified/in training teacher mostly with infants and toddlers though currently I am with the over 2’s, a challenge that I have really enjoyed.
As a teacher I believe in a respectful, non-hurried learning environment that is child led. I believe all children are confident and capable and should have access to quality education and care. I am passionate about the ongoing development and learning of all children and hope to inspire a life long love of learning.
Hello, I’m Kate Clapshaw and I am from Muriwai, West Auckland. I moved down to Wellington last year and started to work for Childhood Concepts in November. For a few years before this I had been travelling through Asia, Europe, America, North Africa and most recently South America. I love to travel and experience different cultures.
I have been working with children for 7 years including 2 years in an Auckland early childhood centre and as a nanny in New York. I love helping children to learn and grow, which so much fun and very rewarding. I am very excited to be a part of the Childhood Concepts family.
Kia ora! My name is Megan and I am so proud to be on the teaching team at Childhood Concepts Kent Terrace. I am originally from the Manawatu and studied at Massey University. In October 2017, I returned to teaching after 16 years in the home-based early childhood education sector. However, I found my happy place working in the Pukeko Room with our amazing infants and toddlers.
I value all children as individuals and believe all children should be given the opportunity to express their individuality and make choices in an environment responsive to the individual. I pride our team in providing a safe, loving, positive, stimulating and supportive environment for every child in our care. I believe that the heart of early childhood education lies in relationships - our parents, children and team are phenomenal and I love working here!
